Having Fun in the Snow

Hope all the children in Room 3 and your families have had a great break. I hope you are all ready for the upcoming term.
the recent snow in Christchurch have been so much fun. My family and I did not make a snowman but we had many snow fights, which are a lot better. I hope you got outside and played in the snow. Even my dogs had fun playing in the snow and they got aded in to the snow fights.

Hope you and your families are all well and safe.

Mister A

Hansel and Gretel by Talia W

Hansel and Gretel Revised
One sunny day there lived a family of three. There was a Father,a boy and a girl. The boy and girl's names are Hansel and Gretel. Hansel and Gretel both loved candy, ice cream, hot chocolate and all the fat food you can get! They loved fat food as much as a mouse likes cheese. In January their Father found a new girlfriend but she lived in another city. Today they were moving to their new Stepmum's house. Hansel and Gretel have been to this city before with their real Mum so they knew everything about that city.
They finally got there and dropped their bags off at their Stepmum's house. She looked like a witch all mouldy and ugly. She was as ugly as a ugly toad. They said to their father can we go to the mall because she looks scary. The father said yes. Their father was peckish. He was really hungry so he took some very crummy crackers to the mall. They got to the really crowded mall. The mall was as big as a ten story building and was as crowded as someone giving food to all the poor people in the world. Hansel and Gretel rushed into the mall and saw a really yummy lolly shop filled with heaps of candy and fat food and quickly sprinted to the beautiful shop without their father! "Oh no!" and continued "I've lost the kids who knows were they are in this crowded mall!" The father said in a worried voice. But Hansel and Gretel knew the mall inside and out so they didn't panic at all. All at once the father went searching for them and turns around and noticed the door was gone and saw the crumbs his crackers had left so followed them. The crackers were as crummy as toast. Then he got at a point where the crumbs had disappeared. He saw a old, mouldy poor man. He thought that looks like my girlfriend but man version. “Oh I am so sorry were these yours?" said the poor man. Oh its all right I was just following them to find the exit do you know where the exit is?" said the Father. The man said in a nice voice "Yea offcourse but I just have to make a stop at a shop just to go pick up my friend." They started walking. Then they went up this escalator no people were up there it looked scary looking.” Are you going the right way?" The Father said. The mouldy man nodded. They got to an old abandoned shop. Out of the blue the poor man put cuffs on the Father and chucked him in the shop. There on a throne was Hansel and Gretel's Stepmum."Darling why did you say no when I asked you to marry me? Well to bad your going to marry me Son put him in a cage while I get into my wedding dress and put some make - up on!" She shouted. "Oh so this is your plan to force people to marry you! And this is your son he looks exactly like you...." the Father said. The Stepmum replied "Silence!" The Father didn't even finish his sentence.

Hansel and Gretel saw the escalator and said in a exciting voice "That looks fun lets play on it!" So they ran to play and had fun as they got to the top of it they heard “Help any one there?" The voice sounded like their Dad's voice. They sneaked into the abandoned shop and saw their Dad trapped in a steel cage. He told them to do this really fast to switch the keys with the abandoned shop key and the one that opens the cage. Hansel went to get the shop key and Gretel went to steal the cage key. They both quickly changed them. Once they got the cage key they got their Father out and boiled their Stepmum and her son. Hansel, Gretel and their Father stayed in that city and always went to that very yummy lolly shop. They never saw that evil stepmum again and all lived happily ever after with lots of lollies.

Animation: Revenge is not that way!

Production: Last Week

Last week, O.L.A showcased 'The Button Box' Musical. Two students who sang a song together was Isiah(Rm 5) and Evelyn(Rm 3). The song was difficult for Year 5 and 6 children, especially with a tricky duet, yet these students made it look easy. Maybe we could get them to sing another duet together in the future.
Well done Isiah and Evelyn on a fabulous performance.

Stop Motion Animation

Are you ready foy your stop motion animation?

The clip I have attached was something I practised with to ensure everything is ready for tomorrow.
I took 90 photos and this provided me with 13.28 seconds worth of footage. Adding in the narration was very hard as it goes very quickly.

Remember:
Have you finished your background?
Have you got all the characters for your stop motion?
Have I completed my storyboard and script?

Some things to think about:
Using lego men was great but the focus was not great unless the camera was in close.
The lighting may affect your scene. Choose a place to set up your camera and check the lighting.
Camera flash - Do you need it or don't you? Check this when taking photos to check the glare. Sometimes working in the shadows is needed.

101 Misses

At Thursday sports the OLA Year 5 and 6 Football team played a fantastic game. In the first half our strikers were Rebekah and Luke, and quickly they put the OLA team ahead. Luke had some quick touches to pass defenders and his step, left many behind him. At half time the OLA team was leading 6-0.
In the second half, the OLA team had a changee of tactics to make the game fun and fair. The strikers became defenders and our defenders became our new attackers, even the goalie became a striker. This is where the story begins. Hunter scored two brilliant goals, elegant touches. If there was a crowd they would have gone crazy chanting his name. But it was only me and I didn't do that.
Hunter was lighting quick, running in, out and through people. On one occassion he passed 8 people. I could see Hunter's eyes glisten when he saw the goal and he knew 'I only have the goalie to beat'. Then he slid on the ground booting the ball miles away from the goal. Hunter put his face in his hands and then looked to the sideline to see his coach wondering what happened. Hunter shrugged his shoulders and laughed as he ran back in to position. What followed was another 100 misses. The goalie for the other team was good. She was defending the goal stopping Hunter left, right and centre. It was an incredible game with OLA victorious 9-0.
Well done OLA Yr 5-6 Football team.

Claymation

Today Sophie and Molly explored animation/claymation. They had some success and learnt some valuable lessons.
- Keep the camera still.
- Don't have your hands in the photo
- Small movements of the characters
- 60 photos is not enough

Below is a video from YouTube showing Legomation. I enjoyed watching this one. Hope you will too.

The Button box

On Thursday the 30 of June we had our last performance of the Button box. This was the performance that was getting put on a DVD. Lots of people made mistakes but that doesn't matter the show must go on even if people put you down just hold your head up high and stand up to them. Just before the end of the show one of our school leaders came out to give a huge thank you to all the people who gave up their time to help with the props and sort out the play and the music. Thanks to Mrs Earl , Mrs Marston , Miss Brock ,Mr Grant  and Mrs Campbell.
