Sophie's Persuasive Argment!!!

Dear Mr Atherton

I strongly believe that it should be optional if a cyclist wants to risk their live by riding on these dangerous roads. I personally think that bikes shouldn’t have to ride on the road.

Firstly if a cyclist wants to indicate on the road they only have arms. But if a car wants to indicate then they have flashing lights that are clear and easy to see.

Secondly if a car is parked on the side of the road and the driver is ready to get out then as soon as they open the door a cyclist could come riding straight into the door. This would cause a lot of pain and wouldn’t happen on the footpath.

Finally busses, trucks and cars are designed for on the road but bikes are not. Some roads are not safe enough for cyclists to ride on. And if a cyclist is moving around and being distracting it could put the driver in the car off and the driver could lose control of the car. This would cause a lot of injuries and could kill incident people.

If this is too hard to move cyclists from the road to the footpath then why not create a path next to the footpath made for cyclists only. This would make everyone safe.

Yours sincerely,
Sophie Jordan O.L.A

Sophie's Story

Once there was an old man…

One hot sunny summer’s day an 87 year old man called Raymond went for his morning walk around Bluff in Invercargill like he does every morning. Raymond had grey hair, a slouched back, wrinkly skin, he is enthusiastic, kind, caring and he has baby blue eyes. Each day Raymond would come across one, two or three pieces of rubbish but he would immediately stop and pick it all up.

Raymond appeared to see two teenagers called Mickey and Mackey everyday. The teenagers would always be there before the old man. A few days later Raymond woke up and decided to take his morning walk earlier than usual. He walked as the morning breeze blew in his hair; he finally arrived 10 minutes later. He stopped and had a look around to see if Mickey and Mackey were in sight. Raymond finally stopped searching and sat down by some rocks. He waited for half an hour for the teenagers Mickey and Mackey but no one was there, though not even a fish blew a bubble. So Raymond stood up, but just as he did he saw Mickey and Mackey litter. Raymond was furious. He couldn’t believe what he had just seen. He walked home huffing and puffing. He felt strange and all he wanted to do was make a change in the world. Raymond walked through his garden and through the back door. He got into his blue stripy pajama’s and fell asleep. That night Raymond woke up in the middle of the night with a thumping chest, a aching body and he thought his heart had burst into flames. He pressed his medical alert button and within minutes the ambulance was there. The sirens flashed really brightly in the dark of the night. Within seconds Raymond was in the emergency room at the hospital.

Raymond had to have serious heart surgery. 2 days latter Mickey and Mackey thought it was so quiet and where was the old man? Mickey and Mackey missed Raymond but as Raymond was gone Mickey and Mackey changed they stopped littering they had learnt their lessons. the 3 news team arrived at bluff in shock bluff had never looked so beautiful before. Raymond turned on the TV and started watching 3 news. All of a sudden Mickey and Mackey were on TV. Raymond was confused" how did they get to be on TV?” hi said to himself. 5 minutes later they showed all of the images of the area. “Wow that’s so amazing”. Two weeks later they let Raymond go and the 1st thing that Raymond did was go for his morning walk.

He sleeps in his black cage with his soft white basket and black bubble blanket. He has 2 ID tags and a fluffy tail. He has black, soft, fluffy, curly hair that blows in the breeze. His ears are 7cm long. He also has streaks of brown arround his mouth and on his ears. His personality is mischevious...

After tea all the kids played in the back garden then we watched a movie and went to sleep.

Next morning we all woke up at 7:30 am for breckfast we had pancakes , banana , strawberries , vanilla ice cream and some juicy baconJ

After breckfast we went to the pools even the spas and on all of the hydroslides. All of us had turns at going on the superbowl down the dark tube then round and round and round then the fun ends down the plug holeL

We waited 20 min in the line to go on the ride after that we went back to our holiday home and had mouse traps for tea then went to sleep.

It was day three and we all decided to just have FUN! So food games and lots of other things we played for three hours then went to the lollie shop and for a walk around. By the time we got back to the holiday home and had tea it was 9:30 pm we went to bed and fell fast asleep. In the morning we packed up and went home.
