Working Bee @ O.L.A.
Yesterday at O.L.A many families came together to clean up the school. As you can see by the photos there was a great turn out and some children from Room 3 also were there helping out.
Great job to those all who helped tidy the school. I know some people could not get to school due to roads and some people have left Christchurch. But to those who could make it, thank you for your hardwork.
Many Thanks and Stay Safe,
Mister A
PORK CHOPS
Emailed from the Wirepa family
In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.
The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cub's, perhaps she would improve.
After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only 'orphans' that could be found quickly, were a litter of weanling pigs The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger. Would they become cubs or pork chops??

Talia’s Earthquake Recount
Hi Mr A and all of Room 3 this is my experience of the BIG earthquake we had on Tuesday......
Tuesday the 22 of the 2 /2011 we were at school having our lunch play time my friends and I were waiting out side of room 8 waiting to go in the pool. Next room 7 started shaking my friends and I went silent wondering what was going on. Then suddenly we got up and ran we forgot what to do so we were running to Mrs Earl. When I was running I fell over and bruised my leg and arm they both started bleeding and I had some scratches on my other leg but I am ok. But then everyone started to do the turtle so me and my friend did the turtle. I said to my best friend Breanna "Are you ok? " She looked up at me crying she said "yes". Every minute the earthquake got harder and harder I yelled "Breanna!" in a scared voice. She yelled my name back then it stopped. "'Phew'" its all over. Then we had to line up for the roll call I looked around for Mr A so I know where to line up. I found him. I lined up. Every one around me was crying. I thought about all of my family I was worried so I started crying. Judith was sitting next to me she cheered me up by saying "pretend you're in the middle of Samoa eating lollies". I laughed. But when I looked up I noticed that liquefaction started to rise up and it also rose up like a waterfall. Then there was another earthquake. Later it started coming up out of the concrete so some people had to go on the other court and we had to move over. When we moved over my best friend Breanna and my step cousin Jemma came over to me, we were all crying. They started to talk about their families which made me worry about my family. But a couple minutes later my Dad was here we went to my house and waited till my Mum came home. I went around the back to get my dog. He was fine. Then Mum came home saying "Our whole building collapsed but I am ok". But I notice my sister wasn't in the car my Mum said she couldn't get to her school. My Dad went to get her. When me and Mum walked inside it was a mess glass every where and everything had fallen over. Mum said "it was a 6.3 earthquake". Mum started to put things down that might break then it happen again another earthquake we both dived under the table. A few minutes later another one hit .I stayed under the table. Every one came over to check on us. We had no power no water for the night. At 6:30 my Dad, my sister and Step Dad came home.
My family was finally safe and together!! I felt myself becoming calm as I was with my family. I spent the night under our kitchen table but I knew I was safe and God was watching over us. I also knew that my Opa (Grand Dad) was taking care of us. We did not sleep but we were together!!
That was my experience of THE BIG EARTHQUAKE I hope you are all well and with your families.
Stay Safe from Talia and her family :)

Earthquake! Earthquake!
Around 1:00 at Our lady of the Assumption ,it was lunch time outside on the school court. Then there went our 6.4 magnitute earthquake. Quickly we all ducked into a turtle there were screams and shouts and some crys but eventually we all made it to our evacuation meeting point.
There were a few other Quakes afterwards and liqourfaction started to come through cracks and the fields. Sooner on the liqourfaction started to grow bigger. We all made it home safe and sound and together with our familes.
The steps of an Earthquake:
If you happen to expiriance an earthquake the first step is to NOT PANIC! Get down into a turtle with your hands held tight around your head, Otherwise get to a door and stand underneath the framing or hed to a couch or counter and crouch down beside it. Stay far from tall buildings and power lines I hope my steps help you during this frightning 2011 earthquake and to get through safely. God bless you all, Molly.

A Shake Up to Remember.
To the children in Room 3,
Thank you for being seniors yesterday and leading by example when lining up on the court. I know that it was a scary episode, however you were very brave and responsible. I am pleased that you all went in to TURTLES when the earthquake happened. Well Done!
Your JOB is not over though. In Room 3 we support one another in difficult times, and we need to do the same in our families. Listen to your parents and be respectful. Times like these can cause stress, think about your actions and think, how can I help my parents?
Room 3, post a comment if you would like or email me abraham.atherton@ola.school.nz if you would like to say hi.
Yesterday, when I went home with Isiah and Ruthie, our house had shelves on the floor, lights had broken from the ceiling and smashed, my goldfish were very afraid, and my dogs were very pleased to see me. But all my family was healthy and well. I hope all the children in Room 3 and your families are healthy.
Take Care and God Bless
